Analysis of the match between Newcastle United and Manchester City
Newcastle have shown two contrasting faces this season: one version capable of delivering flawless wins, and another that collapses with back-to-back 1–3 defeats in the Premier League. Their dominant victories mostly came from League Cup and Champions League matches at home, while losses to West Ham and Brentford dropped them to 14th place with 12 points, only two points above the relegation zone.
As the season enters its busy period with a packed schedule across all competitions, Eddie Howe hopes the best version of his side will appear this weekend when they host Man City — a team Newcastle have only lost to once in their last four meetings at St. James' Park.
On the opposite side, Pep Guardiola celebrated his 1,000th match as a manager with a commanding win over reigning champions Liverpool before the international break. It was also a clear message to the league that Man City remain one of the strongest contenders for the title.
City are currently on a four-match winning streak in all competitions after their defeat to Aston Villa a month ago. They capitalized on Arsenal’s slip and cut the gap at the top to four points. With a more favorable run of fixtures ahead, Man City aim to extend their momentum by breaking the St. James’ Park fortress.
