Analysis of the match between PSG and Flamengo
PSG will appear in the Intercontinental Cup final for the first time in their history, facing Flamengo in the battle for the title at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Doha, Qatar. As the reigning UEFA Champions League holders, the French giants earned a direct spot in the final, while Flamengo secured their place by defeating Pyramids 2-0 in the Challenger Cup.
After a season filled with trophies, PSG are fully aware of how difficult it is to keep winning silverware. They missed out on their first global title in the summer after a 0-3 defeat to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final, and they currently trail Lens by one point after 16 Ligue 1 rounds.
Luis Enrique’s side arrive unbeaten in three matches across all competitions, including two clean sheets. PSG have also won five, drawn three and lost just once in their last nine away fixtures. Their last cup final in Qatar marked the beginning of a golden spell, starting with a French Super Cup victory over Monaco.
This match will be PSG’s second encounter with a Brazilian club, following a 0-1 loss to Botafogo at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. Lifting the Intercontinental Cup for the first time is therefore their ultimate target.
Flamengo, however, are no ordinary opponents. The Brazilian side earned their final berth with a solid 2-0 win over Pyramids. A victory over PSG would see them claim their second Intercontinental Cup title, having first lifted the trophy in 1981 after defeating Liverpool 3-0 in Tokyo.
