Analysis of the match between Switzerland and Sweden
In the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, Switzerland share Group B with Kosovo, Slovenia, and Sweden. Although many expected Switzerland and Sweden to compete directly for the two qualifying spots, the situation has turned out completely different: Sweden sit at the bottom with just one point, while Switzerland top the table with an impressive 10 points.
With only two matches remaining, Sweden’s chances of turning things around are extremely slim. Switzerland, on the other hand, can secure direct qualification early if they defeat Sweden and Kosovo (7 points) fail to beat Slovenia (3 points).
In that scenario, Switzerland would move to 13 points, while Kosovo could reach a maximum of 8 points, meaning Granit Xhaka and his teammates would clinch their place at the 2026 World Cup one round early.
The current form of the two teams highlights the gap between them. Switzerland are unbeaten in their last five matches and have avoided defeat in their previous five home games. Meanwhile, Sweden have won only one of their last five fixtures and just one of their last four away matches.
With star forwards Gyokeres and Isak still struggling to find the net and a shaky defense behind them, Sweden are unlikely to earn points against a well-balanced and in-form Switzerland side. The hosts are strongly favored to take all three points.
